Barbers of NE Suffolk (England) and Guelph (Ontario, Canada) and many other various related family-branches.

Introduction

In the last 36 years I have pursued the hobby of family genealogy with great joy - searching meticulously and stumbling, luckily, upon information, people, pictures and places. I have explored, retreived, gleaned, and stored information in file after file, often randomly and with various (usually unsuccessful) attempts at organization. I have loved the chase and the find but not as much the organization and presentation aspects (though I can wax on for hours - in most boring ways, as my immediate family no doubt has discovered). Consequently, I find that I have a huge composite mix of well-researched and 'proveable' material and other more-speculative and rough-stored material, some of which I do not now know from which source(s) it has been obtained. (see apologia below)
I am indebted to a distant cousin, Mr. Donald Caddick for much of the research that traces the descendants of James Barber (1434 - 1489) through to James Barber (1778 - 1808) - and the latter's descendants. My line departs from the research of Donald Caddick at the latter James Barber, as I am descended through James' brother, Robert Barber (1747 - 1815). Murray Barber, a distant cousin - from Christchurch, New Zealand, has connected with me several times on-line and was the one who put me in touch with the the research of Donald Caddick. Donald died in July of 2003. Where possible, I have acknowledged the research of Donald Caddick and others in my notes.
I've probably thrown too much breadth, depth and variety onto this site as I've gradually added my wife Jane's side - and many other branches. I hope you enjoy the site, finding it interesting and perhaps of assistance in your own research. I have more information as it's difficult to keep this site update as I come across new leads and finds.
Much of my material is on ancestry.ca and I also subscribe to findmypast.com. For other information, resources and interests of mine, check out my site at: lauriebarber.ca.
