Alice (or Peggy) was born 24 November, 1885 at Redditch, Worcester, England. The 1901 UK Census shows her as a 'milliner's apprentice,' age 15, Redditch, Wordcestershire. She came to Canada and lived for a while in a boarding house in London, Ontario, where she met the man she would marry - James William Barnard.
