Ellen May (nicknamed Nellie) King was born at 26 Lordship Road, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire (Herts), England on 27 January, 1903. She was christened at St. Mary's, Cheshunt in that year. Ellen was the daughter of Frank King and Lillian Maria (nee Austin).
She moved with her family to Oakville, Ontario and then to Burlington, Ontario ca 1907. She married Ernest Hayes Almas (b. 1900 - d. 1939) at the manse of Trinity Methodist (now 'United) Church, Burlington, Ontario.
Ellen and Ernest Almas' children were:
- Mary Lillian Almas - (my mother) - married Arthur Freeman Barber
- James Austin Almas - 1927 - 1943
- Muriel Elizabeth Isabel Almas - 14 July, 1928 - February, 1951
- William Ernest Almas - married Ruth Redding
