A. Freeman Barber was born in Guelph Township, March 24, 1921 and died in Burlington, ON, March 28, 2007.
He was the son of Gordon Barber and Annie Alice Green - and a twin of Annie Frances. They were born in a little stone house on Highway 24, in Guelph Township, just west of Guelph city. He moved with his family from there to Durie Lane, Toronto; Home Street, Guelph; Park Street, Dundas; Brant Street, Burlington; Plains Road, Burlington and Middle Road (now the QEW or Queen Elizabeth Way), Burlington (just east of the Guelph Line).
Freeman married Mary Lilian Almas December 16, 1944. He had been working for her uncle, George Pollard (husband of Ellen (Nell) Almas), a market gardener on Maple Avenue, Burlington, on the old Josiah (Jr.) Lambshead property. After their marriage they first lived in the big house on his parents' farm, on the QEW in Burlington, before purchasing the 'hired hand' house, and a plot of land - 3 and 1/2 acres, from George Pollard, at 759 Maple Avenue. Here Freeman and Mary raised their family and undertook a market gardening growing and selling business, until 1976.

Subsequently Freeman and Mary lived on Kerns Road, Teal Avenue and Amhurst, in Burlington. They then moved to a retirement home in Waterdown, Ontario. Latterly Dad was a resident at CAMA Woodlands Retirement Home, Burlington, Ontario.
Around 1990 he and his son (moi) travelled together to visit various ancestry locations in England - notably in and around Fressingfield, Suffolk (the Barber roots) and around the North Yorkshire Moors (his mother's roots).
Freeman served as a leader and elder in two Associated Gospel Churches of Canada - at Brant Bible Church (formerly Freeman Gospel Tabernacle) and Park Bible Church. He belonged to the Gideon Bible Society and served in the Burlington 'camp' distributing thousands of pocket New Testaments to young people, in public schools through over 35 years of service. He was also responsible for the placement of Bibles in local motels and hospitals.
BARBER, Arthur Freeman - Peacefully on March 28, 2007 at Cama Woodlands Nursing Home, Burlington, at the age of 86. Beloved husband for 62 years and friend of Mary (nee Almas). Loving father of Beth Anger of Burlington, Rev. Dr. Laurence Barber (Jane) of Etobicoke, Muriel Heska (Bill) of Fonthill, grandfather of Timothy Anger (Chrystalla), Matthew Anger, Andrew Barber (Dana), Rebekah Barber, James Barber, Beth Heska, David Heska and Ryan Heska, and great-grandfather of Joshua Anger, Nathan Barber and Elizabeth Anger. Also survived by his sister Marjorie Withers of Burlington and his twin sister Frances Cameron of Walkerton, and sister-in-law Doris Goodbrand (Barber). Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Annie Barber, infant sister Dorothy, sister Dora Roberts, brother Rev. Albert Barber, and great-granddaughter Jillian Barber. Freeman was a longstanding member and honorary elder of Compass Point Bible Church (formerly Park Bible Church) and an active member of the Gideon Bible Society for 35 years. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop-light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Sunday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Compass Point Bible Church (Kerns Road Campus), 1500 Kerns Road on Monday, April 2, 2007 at 1 p.m. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington.
